Who TF is running SIG these days?
« on: January 30, 2012, 11:17:57 PM »
I thought adding rails was a great idea...

SCT was awesome while in production.

E2 was a gay title, even if the idea of the gun was cool. It had the new slide design (not an improvement IMO) and the big letters "E2" stamped on the end. Putting it on the .40 frame yielded an extra 2 rnds in 9mm so thumbs up there.

Platinum elite was kind of gay, basically an equinoxed stainless slide and aluminum grips which didnt match the color of either the satin stainless or brushed part of the slide. A big old engraved "Platinum" to go with it. Cool if you are a rapper.

^^^but I guess I could live with that.

But what were they thinking with the "rainbow" slide..?

what are they thinking with a diamond plate slide?

And why would a german firearms company, take an american pistol design, build it in america, and slap "Spartan" on it?

I wont even touch upon their new production/quality issues.

Makes me feel like sig just wants to be a clown in a circus show and make everybody laugh.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Sorry, just a rant from watching a classy firearms manufacturer turn into a joke...

couldnt agree more.  sig really screwed up the whole 1911 thing, their customer service was the worst. first time sent gun in to them they sent it back "no problem found". finally got the gun to one of their head gunsmiths and he couldnt even hand cycle a round. ended up fitting new entire upper.
you forgot "the lady p238" wife even laughed at it, the "gambler" and the "pirahna" i could go on as well but i feel like im in a bad kenny rogers movie.......
sig unfortunately let themselves go.....

Many of those models I don't personally care for, I dislike the rainbow hue finish (only seen these on the P238 and the P239 so far) and I -really- dislike the diamond plate slides.

Thankfully the hideous models seem relegated to about ~5% of the Sigs I see out in circulation.. which either means they're produced in fairly low numbers or the people who like them -really- like them (or are too embarrassed to ever bring them in for sale).  I don't see why they can't just stick with black.  It worked for years, it works for Glocks and it works for HK.

It's really a shame.  Sig was considered to be one of the top, if not THE top manufacturer and commanded a premium.  I've sold off all of my Sigs except for an older model P228 that I got back in the mid-90's.  Between their QC issues with the legacy guns and the embarassing saga of the P250, it's nearly unbelievable what they've done to their own company.  The P250 takes the cake though.

It's actually in 9, 40, and 357sig.  New gen P229 frame, cut down grip, with shortened, new gen P228 slide.  Accepts P229 magazines.

18 years ago that would have been really innovative, and it was for another company.  Sig is soooo on the cutting edge.

I have two words that resulted in the decline of the quality, innovation, QC and customer service problems at Sig...

Care to take a guess?

Was *was* a great company with great products.  For years, I carried a classic 226 and infrequently carried a 229.  They really jumped the shark.  So sad.

Seems like the only interesting thing ive seen outta them is the new P938 coming out. A P238 chambered for 9mm.... Slightly bigger also. Customer service and QC is crap or has been for awhile now.

I was quasi-interested in the 224 when I heard it would accept my 229 magazines.. but my interest was killed when I saw the MSRP of 1,100.

That will probably have it hitting retail around ~900-1050 range which is way too steep for me.

SIG is really confused about who they are at this point and they need someone to have an intervention.  You can't command that kind of premium when your product and service have declined.  They have done a decent job at holding onto some of their contracts, although some of them would be described as a hostage-taking scenario.

I would like to meet whoever was running Sig in ~1992.

I picked up a Sig 228 in excellent condition today.  Serial number and proof marks date it at 1992 and it looks like it's in superb condition.  Obvious that it's been shot, but the rails show less wear than my 229 that's dated from 2010.. which is sad considering the 228 is nearly 18 years younger.

Despite my massive trolling of Sig fans on TOS, an old school P220 would really tickle my pickle.  The barrel lockup is simply amazing when you consider that you are holding essentially sheet metal with a really sneaky weld holding the front on it.   The OP hit it on the head.  Sig was cutting edge in 1980 and even 1990, but today their Manual of arms is an anarchronism and their marketing is bush league bullshit.

All of the desirable sigs have already been made.
