Quick New Production Gen4 G19 Review
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:54:58 AM »
So I was finally able to get out and shoot my "new production" Gen4 G19. We all know about the problems with the 9mm Gen4s.  When I bought mine it came with the 0-3-4 recoil spring already which is the supposed fix for the cycling/stove pipe problems. The extractor/ejector part# I haven't checked but it's not a top priority for me, I could care less which direction my brass flys. So after 2 hours and 1300+ rounds I had no malfunctions not a single one. I should also say I didn't clean the gun after buying it. Some frown against this but it didn't cause any problems for me. The one "malfunction" I had was user error, I accidentally hit the slide stop on the last round and the slide didn't lock back.

I shot 1350 rounds;
400 White Box Winchester(Walmart),
500 Federal Bulk(Walmart),
250 Magtech,
150 PMC Bronze
40 Federal HyrdaShok(low recoil)
10 Loose Remington rounds(not sure what exactly)

I'd say that glock has fixed the Gen 4 reliability issues. I'm going to shoot another 500rds next week to make sure since the problems are suppose to occur around the 1200 round mark.

ETA: The recoil was awesome definitely less than a Gen1,2,3. Love my new Gen4 G19!

Good to hear. I want to get another Glock 19, but was weary about the Gen4s.

If you get one just check the base if the spring it should have a 0 on the left 3 on the bottom and 4 on the right....ill take a picture when I get home and edit it  into this post

Edit: If the Gen4 you pick up doesnt have the 0-3-4 spring Glock will replace it for free. Call them up tell them your serial number and they'll ship out a new one with a return label for the old one.

Thanks for this report, I too have been wanting to buy a new Gen4 23 but wanted to wait and see if improvements were made.

Alan, IIRC it was only the 9mm Gen4s that had problems...the first 2 or 3(original and replacement) recoil springs were too stiff to let the gun cycle with week ammo. While I haven't shot one the .40s are suppose to have been good from the start and the recoil feels more like a 9mm. I had to do a lot of sifting out the BS and the facts when I was researching the Gen4s

Good post Sean. It would be cool if this thread continues on as a mini Gen4 diary and you continue to update it with any good/bad you experience as the round count gets higher.

How about the grip? Is it biting into you after a few hundred rounds, or in the cold without gloves?

I personally LOVE the grip on the Gen3.

Never cleaned it after the range yesterday and was thinking I might do a version of Filthy 14 to 2000 rounds or until I start getting malfunction problems. I'll keep everyone updated on each trip to the range. I'm going to make it a point to always shoot some low recoil ammo to check for any cycling problems.

Grip wasn't a problem. I actually like the more aggressive textured. My palms were sweating beyond belief for some reason, it was like i dipped them in a bucket of water and gave them 2 quick shakes. Had no problems with the gun shifting in my hands. My Gen3 G26 would shift like crazy when I had sweaty palms. Haven't shot it in pure cold yet. I went to a friends house and we had outdoor space heaters setup on the "firing line"

I'm now running a 4th Gen 19, 17, and 34... the G17 was an early model with the original guide rod/spring combo.  Only issue I had was during assembly, the gun function fine before and after the new guide rod assembly was installed.  The G19 and G34 have both been flawless, typical Glock reliability!

Someone mentioned the G22/23... I believe the person who stated earlier that it was 9mm Glock problem is correct, as the 9mm was the only one that qualified for the GRA upgrade.

Thanks to both of you, I didn't realize it was just the 9mm Gen 4 with the problem, gotta go buy my new G23 gen 4 now.

Man, you need to start reloading!!

I'll believe it when I see it if they have managed to make a .40 that felt like a 9mm.  I had a 23 and did not shoot it well.  Its not that the recoil was intimidating, it wasn't .  Its that the gun shifted in my hand so I couldn't shoot it quickly and accurately.  I could do one or the other.  Ha.
