Coming from you, that's funny all day long.

I'm glad my humor isn't wasted here.

I've got one word for you...

There is some wisdom to the spend less and shoot more theory, by the time you realize what you love/hate about the 5-600$ 1911 you will be ready to make the choices you are asking about based on your experience.

A decent taurus (i heard that ), springfield etc of today will be a pretty darn good shooter and hold the resale pretty well, not talking % but actual $$ if you spend 600 on a new one what is the low end "I need new shoes" on it? 400-450? not bad after shooting the balls off it. Similar to the used car private market, a $1500 beater moves faster than a mint $25,000k mercedes people are more likely to be able to spend the 4-500 cash$ in their pocket for a low end used than $1000 they would have to put on a credit card and therefore go to a store.

my 9mm job lost 7-800$ just walkin out the door, it is a real small market for a no name small manufacturer "custom". but I could not sell it anyway...

I have a S+W 1911 and have no complaints excepting the huge logo on the left slide. It isn't a true 1911, it has an external extractor but it has a decent single action trigger. It wasn't that expensive when I bought it but that was years ago. It shoots great. Pete

RIA produces sturdy, well-made 1911s in the old school military design.  Nothing flashy.  But for ~$475 brand new, are easy on the wallet and keep their value.  They're even built on what was originally Colt equipment and tooling.

Colt 1911 Government, current production.  Series 70 if you can find one.

Stay away from the 3.0"-3.5" barrel variants.  Prone to cycling problems.

With the right holster and belt, carrying a Government model is easy.
