What is your price range? That helps a lot. Colt's, kimbers, if you look at a kimber check it thoroughly seen a lot of people complaining about quality control. Read a lot of good reviews on the sti trojans.

You can get a pair of Rock Island Armory 1911s and a few hundred rounds of ammo for that.   ;D

Colt Series 70 Reissue, Colt WW1 Reissue, or any of the Dan Wesson variants would be my choice. That being said, the idea of 2 Rock Islands, one in 45acp and the other in 9mm is a very practical alternative.

New Ruger Sr1911 under $700.00 or Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911 under $800 both excellant choices.

There is a lot of good information in this link:

http://www.1911addicts.com/showthread.php?511-Buyer-s-guide-for-all-you-1911-addicts...

For what it's worth I was shopping for a 1911 last month and went with the Ruger SR1911 and I have zero complaints. I've put a few hundred rounds through it and it's eaten everything I've thrown at it.  The common impression when I was browsing around was that you got a lot of gun with the SR1911 and for 669 I tend to agree.

For me, for my first 1911 and was a solid entry level gun.

Good.  Polymer is outdated.

I am sure the collective can guide you to a number of 1911s, with prices, features and quality all over the map.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are you are not providing enough information...

Range/Safe queen?  Carry?  Round count per year?  Train with it?  Familiarization with the style or "coffee table gun" that allows you to check that off the inventory list?  Budget?

newington gun exchange has a brand new dan wesson guardian 9mm marked incorrectly for 1250 instead of 1500.  also take a look at sti (stiguns.com) they have a lot of 1911's at that price range, theyre great quality and customer service is awesome.  usually park city tactical in bridgeport has a few sti's in stock.

This is probably out of price range, I think it goes for $3,200 or something to that effect.   :-[ But I had the chance to shoot my buddy's 2012(?) Dan Wesson 10mm "combat"(<---i think thats what it's called) 1911 it's an awesome awesome gun. Nice smooth trigger pull with a crisp break and the recoil pushes back, it doesnt snap or flip the muzzle. Great piece of craftsmanship. If I had the money and was going to carry a 1911 that would be it.
