I picked up a Rock Island because it had a nice feel to it and was a good price for my first 1911. Out the door it was 500 dollars with an extra mag and some ammo. Out of the box it was a really nice fit, my only gripe on it is I can't change out the sights without replacing the slide. Otherwise, not one issue with it. I have since bought a full length 2 piece guide rod, new trigger and hammer for it to make it even nicer (extra 80 bucks). It's my play toy, shoot to hell and just throw in a new barrel gun while I work on building a really nice one for myself.

Great feedback guys, thanks.

Im going to go take a look at a Springfield Milspec this weekend. If it runs well and is in good shape Im planning on buying it off the guy and showing it to my father in law to see what he thinks, Ill also mention to him the SR1911.

I have a Springfield GI, it's been a great gun. It gets a lot use and has had very few problems handling almost every poor hand load I put through it.

I use it to teach, and sometimes I'll load an empty case in the mag to induce a malfuction, and the thing feeds the empty case half the time.
