Moderately Priced 1911 Suggestions
« on: February 07, 2012, 01:44:58 PM »
Looking to give my father in law some guidance in looking for a 1911. I think hes looking around $700, preferably more military (parkerized) than flashy.

I think theyre all pretty much the same at that price, but wanted to get some other opinions.

My suggestion to him was used Colt, but my knowledge in that area is very weak so if you know a good used or new Colt Im all ears.

Got a pair of Rock Islands in the shop right now, and they're as close to the original military design as you're going to find.  :)

In all honesty, the Springfield GI series is a nice, everyday .45 for the money (and being Brazilian...).

Colt? Ehh. You have two types of Colts. Ones that work, and ones that gunsmiths make a living off of.  :-X
Sometimes you just have to Cowboy Up.

I agree, there have been some great deals lately.  Also if you can walk the gun stores used sections.  My co-worker just picked up are really nice Kimber dirt cheap from Hoffmans.  Last time I was in there they had a pretty nice compact STi in the used case.  You just have to keep an eye out because the good ones go fast.
