That listing is off of the Hansen online catalogue...so it's at their shop. I don't know how much Tom will deal, but it's near the $400 target of the OP.

Ive been looking myself and practically had to pick myself up off the floor when I saw the prices. I mean.... I purchased a brand new Smith and Wesson .44mag for under $400 back in the 90s.   I guess its supply and demand because there isn't much in the way of materials in a revolver and the research and development has been payed for years ago.

One think I cant understand is why people pay the prices they do. It used to be that Smith and Wesson was the best and you could buy a Ruger for about 35% less.. although it was still a very good revolver.  Now it looks like everything is very close in price even Taurus.   I have nothing against Taurus but looks to me that they are way, way, way, way overpriced.  For about 10-20% more you can get a smith if you shop around.

The only good deal I see is Charter Arms. I may buy one if I decide I want a revolver.

Wow. What a dinosaur I've become. I have a Ruger, as well, but it is the predecessor of the SP101; the Security Six. It's never given me a lick of trouble, but my .357 reloads using Unigue gun powder foul it up something fierce, so a good scrubbing is required after shooting.

What does everyone have against taurus. My main carry piece is an ultralite taurus 85. It has been 100% reliable and very accurate.

Just curious?

I personally know 3 people whose Taurus revolvers locked up solid the first time they shot them.  Do I need to elaborate?

Re other alternatives:  Rugers are, if anything else, tougher than Smiths, with all coil springs and no removable frame panel.   But Ive had Smiths for years and I know how to tune their triggers. So I stick with what I know. But I don't have a single bad thing to say about Rugers.

The deals are out there. Before I got my FFL this past year I found a model 66 for $600 with 900 rounds of nickel cased .357 magnum HP ammunition.
