Taurus Public Defender Polymer
« on: September 19, 2010, 02:19:19 PM »
Does anyone on here own or have they shot the new Taurus Public Defender polymer variation?  I know it's not necessarily a practical gun, but I like the idea of being able to carry a .410 revolver (even if I don't do it very often) and I think it'd be a fun addition to my collection.
So, if anyone has any first or lasting impressions of this gun, I'd like to hear them.

I haven't seen a polymer-frame variation; neither is there one on the web site.

It's under .410/45LC in the Revolvers section, listed with the other Judges.

My impression is that the Taurus revolver looks rather odd and awkward to me.

A mid-sized .357 magnum revolver would probably be more practical and accurate. You can always get some .38 special  fine shot loads for shooting snakes and rodents up close from a .357 magnum instead of .410 shotshells. A .357 has plenty of power for self-defense with hollow points

The Judge is probably one of the dumbest products on the market right now.  And surprise, surprise, it was Taurus who brought it there.

Unless you're primary purpose for the gun is snake killing, I would find something else for a carry gun.

Darn! I looked at the site twice and missed that one both times. :(

I carry this bad boy when i want 410 or 45LC

First it works, and second its easy to carry.I am not a fan of Taurus hand guns.I have had to send 2 back for over 6 months of vacation time down at the mothership. Both guns where not fixable and i had to wait longer to get them replaced.

Just my 2 cents worth.Bond arms, built like a tank carrys easy and reloads fast. Its also a very safe for what it is.

also welcome to the forum  :)

I've already got a couple carry guns (Ruger LCR and Glock 27), and I'm probably also going to pick up a Sig P239 when I get home from the stan, the public defender would be just for fun and carrying occassionally.

I dont care what anyone says, the Judge is a fun gun!
I love to break clays and doing it with a handgun is a real challenge. I would not carry it as an SD gun but for some fun its a blast!!

anybody out there know the terminal ballistics of .410 on a handgun platform?  they are selling a lot of this.  besides effective marketing, does the judge really perform to its intended purpose in defensive situations?

Looks like .410 in a handgun platform is really only effective at extreme close range, at that point I would probably be just as well off with my Ruger LCR.
