Good all around revolver

What would you guys recommend for a revolver?  I'm looking for something in a high caliber. I'm not going to ccw. Only range and home protection.

Good all-around?  I'd go with .45ACP.  Wide selection of ammo readily available and quite affordable compared to most revolver-specific cartridges.  And I like ammo interchangeability with other .45 firearms, from semi-auto handguns to carbines.

For revolver specific cartridges, .38, .357 and .44 are the most popular, with .454 Casul and .45LC trailing.

Some people seem to prefer handguns that can also chamber .410 shotgun cartridges.

38/357 smith 4"... Small enough to pack and large enough to be accurate. It will also absorb enough recoil to remain a pleasure to shoot.

While its no secret I collect Colts, the cylinder release controls on a smith are much more ergonomic and instinctive.
Police dept buy backs are fewer now but a copy of shotgun news can show you they can still be had for reasonable money.

GP100, 686, or if you want a real cannon, Super Redhawk Alaskan.  The nice thing for all of them is you get 2 calibers in one.

Any thing by S&W or Ruger.3-4" barrel .357 Magnum / .38 Spl., would be a great all around revolver. I have a Ruger GP141 (blued 4" .357) with target sights and love it.

Smith, I have a fondness for the 66 357 4", not to heavy, points well, can carry in a shoulder rig all day and still shoot bullseye with it.

I would agree on the GP100. I have a Wiley Clapp Talo edition GP100 357 3" which has become my favorite.

Just got one yesterday  ;) Talo edition

I got it to play around with plate shooting using a revolver and practicing my reloading speed. Figured it would slow me down some as I normally shoot semis.

Trigger feels really good as does the grips. I plan to try and find a Hogue rubber grip or the hardwood grip that is a bit more squarish shaped.
