Vietnam in HD - History Channel. kick ass documentary
« on: November 09, 2011, 09:08:25 PM »
geez.  I started watching this show late one night and had to stay up to finish the first episode.  The image of the Army specialist getting a emergency trach at LZ Xray during the Ia Drang battle and that look he gives the camera really gets in your head.

I also like the interviews that they conduct.  I'd like to meet Galloway in person.  I've seen a bunch of Nam documentaries but this one both educates and fascinates.

War really never changes.  Privates, Lance Collies, Sgts, and their LTs close with and take the fight to the enemy.  They leave behind wives, kids, loved ones.  It is the same thing now.  half a century from now.  the boots on the ground will still suffer the brunt of our country's fighting.

It really, REALLY is a good series.

And when those men came home, they were called "babykillers", "monsters", "insert-any-slur". Bastards.

That was a war that didn't need to be fought. Oh. I'm sorry. "Conflict".

Excellent documentary.
After watching the past two nights, it's only increased the utmost level of respect I hold for our Vietnam vets.
Also pick up Connecticut native and resident (featured in the second night) Art Wiknik's book "Nam-Sense"..good read.

Out of 12 people I knew in the early 60's and were close friends, only 6 came back somewhat whole! Two have never returned and the others came back in aluminum cases! I have etchings of all of them here from the 'Wall' and I will never forget them......ever!
