The Walking Dead
« on: October 23, 2011, 05:16:12 PM »
Hey All,

I've got a question, in the world of the "Walking Dead" would not all rotting dead bodies effect the envoirment?  If whatever virus that causes the regeneration of the dead humans jump species and into the animals that are feeding off of them?  Just wondering if the show has the budget to show that?

More environmental damage will be done by the various petrochemical, chemical, nuke plants and the like when humans stop maintain and repairing machinery. The History Channel had a series called Life After People where they showed what could happen if humans were no longer around to maintain and repare things.

One thing rarely mentioned in zombie movies is the diseases that can come from decomposing human corpses. It is not known of the Walking Dead disease that turns people into zombies can jump species. Other movies do the same, only with Resident Evil have I seen mention of animals becoming contaminated with the virus/disease that infects humans.

Its fictional so they have to take liberties with the story line to keep it interesting. The writers have done some stupid things with the Walking Dead so far. Having them driving around in an RV that constantly breaks down, not grabbing truck loads of firearms and ammo that was scattered around CDC, driving a noisy Harley as your scout vehicles. The last episode had the hints of some liberal anti gun messaging leak into the story line.

Less than three hours to the next episode...

SBHaven,

I saw that same "Life After People" show also.  I'm surprised that the writers of the show haven't taken those factors and put them in the storyline.  Another plot-hole is that if you get the bodily fluid of a walker in your face, from a CQB encounter that should make you infected as well.

I have to agree with you about the Harley, I think it make better sense to use an ATV for a scout vehicle.  As far the group not grabbing all the guns and ammo they could put in the camper, well that's just like SG-1 not scooping up all those Jaffa staff weapons and handing them out to other prisoners when they were escaping the castle in the pilot episode.  One other thing that bothers me is why don't they have some NVG's?

And what anti-gun group think do believe is creeping into the storyline?

Personally, I like watching it for sh&ts n' giggles.

I know that Carl (the kid) is going to live though. Even after taking a rifle bullet center mass... he's gonna live.  ;)

Hey it's entertaining show.   Although, I have to say that is some HK discrimination going on with this show :).  All I've seen so far are Glocks, Berretta, and a S&W. :(

I also, along with the virus jumping to other species, don't understand how a zombie can run like an athletic runner and have the reflexes of a snake. The exposed muscles, tendons, spinal cord, sometime eyes do not dry up and or having limbs falling off. You should be able to hit them in the head and their head should be flying off lol. Heck what happened to the smell of rotting flesh and flies other animals attacking and eating them...ya its just a movie but I also agree with the others here. I really did not like the anti gun crap that they tried to pull.

That always got me too. It's what, 102 degrees in Georgia, and those zombies have been running around for WEEKS.

There is no frackin' way, that the muscle tissue would still be active. It would've decayed so much at that point, they would likely be a jiggling pile of flesh... if even that.  ;)

Not only would the stench of the zombies make you puke, but the swarms of files would be like black clouds as they laid their maggot eggs, aiding in the decomposition.   But what kind of virus works at kind of speed that we see in the show that infect 90% of the human populace?  Even the black death of the middle ages didn't work as fast the zombie virus.  What was the cause of this, I hope they tackle this as the show progresses.

zAnd what anti-gun group think do believe is creeping into the storyline?

It was in the first episode of this season where the woman couldn't get the gun reassembled while being attacked by a ghoul in the RV. After the attack one of the guys (Shane I think) said something to the effect of "the trained shall be the only ones to carry".

Good show last night. I laughed at the followup Talking Dead show where one of the writers said that the infection doesn't jump species.

One other major issue I've seen with this show is, where are all of the AR'ss, AK's, and silenced weapons? It seems like everyone only has wheel guns, shotguns and bolt action rifles.

Edit to add: The ghoul decaying subject is something else that isn't consistently treated in the movies or books. Dead tissue will decay. As mentioned above after a couple of weeks (in reality) the dead would be a pile of bones on the ground along with animals/insects/bacteria that would have been picking away at each ghoul. Its Hollywood so they have to be able to keep the ghoul together and attacking people so they ignore this aspect of biology.

Al,

All I'm saying is that with so many orphaned guns out there I'm sure these folks could spare some love for a few HK's. :)

BTW, did Kirkland say what cause the outbreak in the 1st place??
