Anyone watch Hell on Wheels on AMC TV?
« on: November 06, 2011, 09:19:11 AM »
If you are a wheel gun fan or a fan of history or guns in general, you should catch this series on TV on the internet.

Here is an excellent blog post and video.  Even if you do not plan to watch the series, what the video to listen to the trouble they went through to get or make period specific guns.

I started a thread when I saw the trailers it looked good from the previews. Didn't realize it started and I don't have cable anymore so I have to watch it online after the fact.  Thanks for the heads up

It was pretty good. I'll watch a couple more episodes before I make my mind up on it.

Saw it last night.

It's just too... I don't know. It's good & all, but a little hokey for my tastes. Besides, Blondie or The Duke would kick his azz every day of the week & twice on Sunday.

Saw it, thought Colm Meaney was perfectly cast as the railroad tycoon. He's the same guy from the Star Trek Next Generation series and several other movies and TV shows. Show's somewhat dark and broody. Has potential.

Unfortunately is was predictable at points. The blond getting shot with an arrow, killing the Indian, then walking back to civilization with the surveyors maps was a stretch. Bet she is the love intrest for the main lead male character who is out to kill those who killed his wife. Also one thing didn't make much sense (continuity error would be my guess), if the Indians killed everyone off in the camp including the surveyor and only the blond woman escaped how did word reach the rail road tycoon's train car so fast (over the telegraph lines)?

Eeh, meh, don't confuse hollywood with reality -- these are the same guys that lead you to believe dropping any gun will cause it to go off, that guns have unlimited ammo and that a single shot can blow up anything and snubby can take down a guy at 100yrds.

Its a story, the first episode is a setup for the rest of the story and they will have to take artistic liberty to form the plot for the rest of the shows.

I like it, I plan to keep watching it.  Like the series "Madmen" it probably take some time to get going.  Wait for the all the cool guns to come in future fire fights!

BTW, in a future episode someone will be using a remake of the first wheel gun ever made.  They had to make it scratch from plans they found.  Its cool stuff like this that will make me watch.  Also, that steam engine, they built it just for the series -- cool stuff!

I finally found the time to watch it, I DVR'd on Sunday.  To me it has shades of Tom Clancy's "Without Remorse".  You know the man on a mission of vengeance thang. I enjoyed the show anyway.  I loved Colm Meany.  It seems that ever since ST: TNG & ST:DS9 Colm Meany has played villainous characters and I hope it doesn't typecast him.  I hope this show makes it.
