First episode tonight. 10 mins in and its great. Lots of blades, hammers, spine severing bearded hawks, weapon to weapon transitions and a whole lot of killing your adversary at bad breath distance.

Carrying a folder as a defensive tool is no different than carrying your handgun without one in the chamber.

Interestingly, for all their barbarian reputation, the Vikings had an outstanding record of exploration and colonization.  Good boat engineering and metallurgical developments as well.

Wonder how factual the History Channel will be with the subject?

Currently working my way through Professor Kenneth Harl's "The Vikings" DVD material (that I've ripped to my MP3 player). The material comprises 36 - half hour long lectures. Interesting stuff.

ETA deleted your retarded comments and my response to them.

The point I was trying to make is that there are lessons to learn from the Viking mentality...meeting threats of violence with resistance and overwhelmingly more violence.

Kind of like the scene where two thugs caught a woman home alone with her daughter and wanted to rape her. Her response after batting her eyes and making them think she would let them? She put her hand on a weapon that was heating up in a blacksmith's fire pit and said "you couldn't hurt me if you tried for 100 years" and proceeded use it to overwhelm them with force and skill.

And you dont like the Walking Dead?

I do watch it, but just for the entertainment value. Not because there is value in watching the 12yr old kid make head shots with a wheel gun with one hand at 30 yards ;D

Interestingly, for all their barbarian reputation, the Vikings had an outstanding record of exploration and colonization.  Good boat engineering and metallurgical developments as well.

There was definitely some gound breaking stuff happening during the Viking Age. They were very good problem solvers as well. I find their metallurgical advancements and designs related to arms/armor very fascinating.
