Title: FightLite SCR - Quick Review
Post by: Supes3 on December 22, 2017, 02:42:52 PM
Ok so I finally pulled the trigger on a Fightlite SCR and bought one recently.  I just took it to the range for a quick trip ... and absolutely loved it.  At 25 yards, iron sights, and shooting from a standing position it gave me a pretty good grouping. I plan on getting some optics soon, still trying to figure out what I want.

It's only 556 so there really isn't much recoil anyways but it felt like a real easy shooter, everything on the gun felt tight.  I ran a couple different magazines with it.  The 5 rounder it came with it,  2 10/20 Magpuls and 2 10/30 USGI mags.  All seemed to work without any issues.

Figured I'd share my experience and excitement with you all in case one of you is on the fence about one like I was for waaaaay too long!

They had a sale a couple of months ago and I for one too. Took it to the range and at 25 yards it's a tack driver as it should be. I love it, it's absolutely a fantastic rifle. The bad thing is that we don't have any long range ranges down here (Stamford).

Great!  Happy for you.

They look like a very good option here in this commie state.  I would like to get one eventually.

Such a cool rifle. I hope they keep it in production for a long time. Been eyeing those new ones on their website with free float rails.

Nice to hear, but I’m still salty on FightLite with how they handled the switchover from Ares. Letting the stock deplete, and then jacking up the price on an essentially unchanged weapon. From what I see they still make a person have to buy the BHO and iron sights separately.

Gonna stick with my Mini 14 until I can pick up one of these AR style AOW’s that are all the rage. Thank you ATF arm brace ruling!!

The AOW AR's look very cool, the one attached I saw on the gun store llc's Facebook that's all CT legal and looks great. These things actually seem very nice regardless of the state.

I wonder if they're legal in all 50 states. Although it's probably best to keep them on the DL so the Dems don't go after them.

The reason the whole "other" thing works is the wording of CT law. Who knows how the laws in other states are written. :dunno:

Looks good!  I can't tell in the picture but are the irons canted or is that a see through scope base?

Wasn't aware of these (I'm not much of a black rifle, excuse me "Modern Sporting Rifle", guy. These look interesting. I did have a Mini-14 some years back (pretty accurate too, I guess, for a Mini, 1" or a little less off the bench at 50 yards all day long).

So, between this and the Mini, with which I am familiar, any particular advantages to going with the SCR over the Ruger?

For me the difference was that the SCR lower can accept most mil spec AR-15 uppers and the SCR uses AR-15 mags.  So that gives the possibility of changing to other calibers besides 556, and keeps the magazines cheaper.  It doesn't sound like this would appeal to you (based on the not much of a black rifle ... guy") but with the ability to use different uppers it could also allow you to utilize a lot of AR type aftermarket parts and add-ons as well.

Those were some of the advantages that I saw for the SCR over the Ruger.

From comparison videos I’ve seen. The SCR holds a slight accuracy advantage. It holds a lighter weight advantage. It uses much cheaper magazines that are not exclusive to the rifle unlike Ruger. Lastly, if you want, there are more upgrade options for the SCR over the Mini.

Now if you just want a basic, no fuss, no muss rifle that comes with no extra equipment needed other than extra mags. Go with the Mini 14. The basic SCR will need at minimum, sights and a last round bolt hold open addition.

I myself went with the Mini 14 over the SCR, but will soon be making the jump to the new Ct legal AR style “others” that are all the rage.

Interesting. The barrel length of the SCR Raider pistols is 7.25 inches, the weight is 3.9lb, and the magazine is outside the pistol grip. Basically an AW in its default configuration.  >:(

I remember Madsmith is doing an "other" version of the raider as the FM20 plus has a brace for it going through the approval process.

Interesting.

So, I could maybe get another upper and have an SCR in 6.5 Grendel or 7.62 x 39 (for deer)? Guess there are plenty of 10 round AR mags around. I'd put an optic on it, anyway, so lack of sights is no bother.

Looking pretty good to me.

Or yeah, I could just get a Mini-30.  But then I wouldn't have a .223. And that just wouldn't be right, would it?

Unless Flightlite has changed the lower one would need a FLightlite compatible BCG to go with a non .223/5.56 upper. The BCG used on the SCR is not the same as a stock BCG for an AR.

As unfortunate as it is that a rifle like the SCR is even needed, it is actually not a bad system.

It's is a shame that the price is as high as it is, but there are not 100 companies making this style of lower and bolt carrier to compete, like with ARs.

I hope that they come out with a 9mm bolt/buffer conversion, and up-scale it into a 308 (that larger mag well might be a good candidate for a 45 cal conversion).

^^This x 100

It is a shame that these aren't lower priced but it makes sense as this is an innovative solution for Non free states like ours as well as just a sporter version which some people prefer.

I keep sending messages to FightLite asking about a 308 product and a 9mm conversion.  They haven't said no ... they just don't reply. :dunno:

Someone made a mod to the old SCR (when it was ARES), and added wood furniture.

Saw it on Reddit.

I am digging the weirdness of the wood furniture!  Well, maybe not the handguard on the grey lament set!  ;D

Kind of reminds me of a post-apocalyptic movie prop!
