When I saw this story on ESPN, they made it seem like Cashman's vehicle was stolen in the past and NYPD didn't remove it from the stolen vehicle database.

Maybe and that might be a credible reason for some "mix up". But nobody I know ( I know two people) keeps a car that has been recovered after it has been stolen. Most would just fix it up and sell it and get another car. I know if I were in his tax bracket the second call after the police report would be to my dealer to pick up another car.
