Self Study Course Question
« on: February 09, 2019, 11:44:52 AM »

Going down the path of getting licensed to hunt. I am taking the self study option and have passed the CT NRA online hunter education course.

There are currently no self study field days listed. Is there any way to know when the field days are going to be or do I just need to keep going back to the registration page periodically? Thanks.

I use to work at DEEP organizing the classes and paperwork for this. The classes are all instructed by volunteers so it’s a crapshoot when a course will be put on. Usually this time of year is slow for courses as a live fire session is required and winter makes that a tad difficult.  By spring you should see them popping up again more frequently, but it is still good idea to check back periodically.

Call your DEEP district HQ. EnCon officers might not know, but the office will.
Kudos on the hunting license, though- enjoy!

I had this same question a few years ago, and i called the office and walked me through the whole process and gave me tips to beat the rush.

Biggest thing is to book any classes that show up as soon as you see them.  Once it's gets closer to the season everyone is trying to book them and they fill up faster.

The best place online to connect with CT DEEP for any questions concerning hunting and fishing regs is on CTFisherman.com
EnConn officers partipate in discussions and are very helpful.
The “free” version of the forum is very limited, if you are very into fishing or hunting in CT, that’s the place.
