Look at the "Events"  link on Greyson's site.  The calendar shows what's on the schedule.  I wouldn't recommend the plates to someone who's never shot a gun before, but just some basic experience and safety awareness is all you need to get started.

All great info guys.

First I want to make sure that we’re handling and shooting the firearms properly. We are certainly interested in some self-defense classes but I think the above is the proper place to start.
I never knew about the Activities at Greysens. Those of you familiar with them, do you know where they post their schedule?
I will take you up on that offer Nutter, thanks!
I thought you said you were a customer at Greyson's? Check their web site. They post a calendar but it seems the only event on it is Wednesday night plates. The also detail their training programs and prices.

So ask in person or check the website.

If I were you I'd probably hook up with one of the competent shooters on this forum, get dialed in with the basics before you try competitive or higher level training.... both can be a little overwhelming if you don't have sounds fundamentals.  I'm available most days and could meet you down at Greyson's also.

I am a Customer and Member at Greyson’s. In the many many times ive been there not once have they mentioned any activities. They should post a calendar in the VIP section and the waiting area. Their online calendar only shows Plates. I looked around today on Bridgeport shooting ranges calendar and they have far more comprehensive schedule.

Not going tonight- most likely next week.
I am one of those guys that enjoys shooting paper- I shot cowboy years ago and loved it. I mainly shoot .22 on Thursday. I am working on consistent shot placement at the moment

Edit to add Safeactionjackson's offer is one you might want to consider taking him up on. He is a very nice guy that is knowledgeable in the sport.
