If someone thinks actually getting historical footnotes to the Constitution written by the Founders themselves requires mental gymnastics, then their brain is too lazy and out of shape to qualify for participation of the argument.
They are not lazy. Not at all. They know the history and meaning just as we do. Its just their emotional and political ideology leads them to a different set of conclusions. They don't like guns. Period. They don't want you and I to have them. Period. So they use mental gymnastics to come up with reasons (in their own minds) as to why guns should be banned in spite of what the founders and SCOTUS wrote.

Heck we had four SCOTUS justices who felt that guns should be restricted even though they indicated it was a individual right. They did so TWICE. They surely know the history and writing of the founders. Yet their emotions and ideology leads them to a different conclusion.
Potentially, a government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims.

You sure they knew it was an individual right and not a collective one like has been taught in every law school over the past century until a decade ago? Maybe they're just inculcated with conventional wisdom from their formative years?
