When a pro makes something look easy everyone thinks they can do it.

My friend tried to fix his garage door himself. Being a cheap skate he had some used spring to replace the broken one. He could not get the door to go up straight. He called me. Once I finally got him to buy 2 new springs with the same spring rate and we installed them it worked fine.

Because I am not a garage door pro it took us maybe an hour or so to get it adjusted nicely. I am sure someone who does it for a living knows all the tricks.

Clearly stuck a nerve with everyone. Im a moron for agreeing to pay $89 per $5 cable plus $99 installation and $39 safety and diagnostic fee.

I dont care what you call it but 15 mins of work (if that) doesnt make that guy a rocket scientist. I got the sense he made the prices up and I should have been smarter.

Im all about paying for a service but at closer inspection no way that was fair pricing.

Again ALL my fault, I should work harder to be more self suffucient like the generations that came before us.

Your garage door opener antenna may be missing, too short, or obstructed by interference.

I bought a new remote opener for my door and as I read the updated instructions I realized the reason my current one didn't work was because it needed to be cleared of all codes. Returned the new opener and my old one works just fine. Weird how the original instructions didn't have the delete all information in it.

I just bought a 2017 Explorer Sport and the Visor home link will not open the garage door outside of the garage only inside under the unit.

Any suggestions?

Some led light bulbs interfere with my opener to the point I need to be very close for the remote to work if the bulbs are lit

Thanks for this. The opener in my car opens the garage fine but hasn't been closing right over the last few weeks. Probably because the bulb is on while I'm trying to close. Didn't even think it could be related to the LED bulbs I installed.

Have you had these LED bulbs for a while or are they some of the newer versions. Supposedly the new ones aren't as bad as far as interference goes as the older ones are.

Thanks for the recommendations. Got it fixed this morning. $265 to replace 2 $5 cables. I dont feel like a mark often but today im a moron.

The process took 15 mins and all he needed was two rods. Even though the springs hold alot of tension its a pretty easy job

I should add, it wasnt fixed by either of the guys recommended. Maybe they would have been more reasonable.

I had one spring break and watched youtube for 10 minutes, 30 minutes and I had both changed.

I always ask myself "wwytd?"   what would youtube do?  saves lots of time and money.
Price seems steep but at least yours is DONE! ( my garage spring was broken for 2 months while I got to it...

I had an eyebolt snap and the spring let go. easy enough to fix, but.....

if its something you don't feel comfortable fixing yourself, better to be safe than a garage door spring through your skull........  no big deal paying someone who does it for a living

I had an old and broken opener replaced with a Sears unit last year, and as I was bragging about all of my lights in the home, the installer warned me not to use them in the unit, because it interferes...so I never did, or even tried it.  Thanks for confirming!!
