WTB M2 Ball or 30-06 Springfield
« on: April 17, 2017, 04:58:01 PM »

Just got my first M1 Garand from the CMP and need something to feed it. Prices at the local shops are just crazy. Not looking for too much, maybe a couple hundred rounds maybe more depending on the cost. Would prefer plain old milsurp M2 ball.

I did see some mil-spec black-tip '06 down at Hansen's, but that's not your first choice, I'm sure.
You are welcome to bring it up and we can handload Garand rounds per taste. You will need to bring your bullets of choice, since I'm rather limited at the moment (maybe some 180 to 220 grain soft points only). Any day of the week is fine, just give me a heads up the day before.

I'd think the 147gr would be close enough of a match to the old 150gr...

Some .30-06 brass, H4895 powder on hand and a milk crate of assorted reloads (many are not M1 suitable, of course).

Keep an eye on the CMP. They will have surplus ammo for a good price. I bought 4 192 rd Spam cans of Greek ammo in bandoliers and enbloc clips. $115 per 192/rds shipped.

Make sure to buy .30-06 hat is marked M1 Garand. If you run full power .30-06 thorugh your Garand you can bend the op rod.

Best to roll your own.

If interested, I've been tearing down some ammo that came to me recently. It is mostly "WRA 42" and "SL 43", so if you want some war-era dummy rounds (or live rounds), let me know. They had 150g to 220g RNSP bullets, but since they are of unknown origin, I'm starting over.

How do soft points generally fare in M1's?

How'd you make out?
Give us a range report, please.

If you do decide to get into rolling your own ammo, I have about 700 empty GI 30-06 brass cases that are looking for a home.

Pretty hard to beat the price at Target Sports USA. $13.90 a box 150g Prvi Partizan M1 ammo:

BTW, all of the .30-06 brass in my collection has been reloaded, so you'll have to provide brass for any more reloads. I do have about 50+ Sierra 150gr Pro Hunters, such as shown in the enbloc above.

My reload & range offer will be good through this weekend, ie. 30 April 2017.
