Thanks!!!! ??? What is the purpose of the "lever/shifter next to the passenger in the first vid?

It's a handbrake lever.  Rather than lying sideways it it easier/faster to reach like you see it.

I don't know what they are like now, but back when I was racing there were two master cylinders on the brake pedal.  There was a knob on the dash leading to a cable to the brake pedal so drivers could adjust the brake bias (front to rear) to suit the road conditions.  Additionally there was often a master cylinder attached to the bottom of that lever you see that you could instantly apply the rear brakes.

This happens very fast:  press clutch to disengage engine and not stall it, flick steering wheel to get car loose, pull the handbrake to lock up rear brakes.  The result is the tail of the car flips around and you can turn very fast around a hairpin or other very tight turn.  It takes practice, but once you get it right it feels wonderful.

You don't have to have the fancy master cylinder on the handbrake to do it.  If you have a cable handbrake take your car to a slippery parking lot (make sure no other cars or light poles etc).  Drive, depress clutch, flick wheel, pull up handbrake (KEEP THUMB ON BUTTON), release handle and enjoy the orgasm of having your car spin around.

Now....  the newer cars like in the video might have some electronic method to disengage the clutch.  I've been out of this for many years and am not familiar with them anymore.

Edit to add:  if you flip your mom's minivan, your raised pickup truck, etc don't complain to me or a lawyer.

Saw this on the road a few days ago and figured I'd post it here.

Where did you see that?

Did the number sticker (or another sticker) indicate the sanctioning body?

It kinda looks like it might be an autocross car.

It looked like it may have been on autocross but some of the yellow pen marks along the rear indicated it may have been an insurance loss. It was coming from either long Island or queens NY to the possibly the towing company in the Bronx NY.
