  • Go Big or go Home..
Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just
pass a  law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more
than 3% of  GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible
         for re-election.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds)
took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified!  Why? Simple!
The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail,
         cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year
or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to
a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask
each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will
have the message.  This is one idea that really should be passed
         around.

     Congressional Reform Act of 2012

         1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no
pay when they're out of office.

         2.  Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social
          Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the
Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into
the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the
American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

         3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan,  just as all
        Americans do.

        4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

        5. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

         6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the
         American people.

        7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void
effective 1/1/13. The American people did not make this
         contract with Congressmen/women.

Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in
Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their
term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will
only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive
the message.  Don't you think it's time?

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

I like it. Never happen though.

While I do like the suggestion, the fatal flaw is that Buffett conveniently did not include the Presidency in his statement.  If CNBC runs Buffett's special again, please watch it.  You will learn his opinions that 1) the Chinese are superior to Americans in every way, and 2) if you are  a middle class American, you are a drag on the economy and in the way of global progress.

I think this is a red herring for the Left. Buffett is Obama's right hand man.   Let's assume Buffett's  statement is true and this sails through as a Constitutional amendment.  What is next to sail through?  Justice Stevens is on record saying we need to look to other countries' laws to interpret our Constitution.  Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg recently commented on our old stale Constitution and praised South Africa's with it's leftwing social justice provisions.  Hillary Clinton on numerous occasions has wanted to change the Constitution (the failed Equal Rights Amendment and getting rid of the Electoral College).

Since the 60's, the calls for Constitutional amendments always come from the Left.   It's an effective way to tie the Judiciary's hands.  I can guarantee there would quickly be a GUN FREE America amendment.

Considering the source of this proposal, of that I have no doubt.  He's been after the 'gun show loophole' and against private sales, a proponent of microstamping, confiscatory taxation on ammunition, for suing gun manufacturers into bankruptcy, and proponent for the imposition of NYC style no-guns-for-anyone-except-police-and-politicians on the whole country.

He's a big-government statist.

And lets we forget the current President, who professes to be a Constitutional scholar, said the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties.

Adding amendments offers the opportunity to adjust the Constitution/Bill of Rights which the founding fathers intended. It can be a force for good or evil depending on what the proposed amendment is. Problem is there is always an ulterior motive any time someone proposes we add new amendments.

Indeed.  And consider the power garb for the President.  The Supreme Court would be bound by this amendment and the Congress could get smoked creating a dictatorship:

1.  Assume next year Obama is President and both houses of Congress have small Republican majorities.  The President could simply veto the budget and the Republicans would not have enough votes to override.  The President then invokes this amendment and the Republicans are toast.

2.  Assume the next Congress is controlled by Democrats with Obama still in the White House.  The Dems budget could then expand government and social programs, nationalize the banks and give Obama his Civilian Defense Force.  To balance the budget, they scuttle the military and all things Republican.

Welcome to Zimbabwe!  ::)
