Great cars, that are now cheap, are 940 model Volvo's, that is if you don't mind driving a brick. lol
Find a well maintained one with 120k or so, and ya should be good for a long, long time. these cars are super easy to work on too, get around 20 23 mpg. Find a non turbo, and that b230 4 cyl. engine will just run n run.
Stay far away from a 5 cyl, and 6 cyl. aint great either.

If you can lower your MPG criteria, you can get Smokin deals on great condition used jeep cherokees. but you'll only get low teens for mileage.

i have owned 2 ford rangers 4.0 liter, an 04 and an 06, loved them both. 5 speed is my preference. they are great little trucks. i had a 97 saturn sc2 that i beat the ever loving snot out of for 2 years without a single major problem, also a 5 speed. i had a 99 explorer, not a bad car also. my current beater is a 96 jeep cherokee with a 5 speed and the 4.0 straight 6. mine is lifted 5" with 33" tires and gets 16-18mpg. the autos get that stock.

i personally cant bring myself to buy jap junk, and hondas and toyotas are wayyyy over priced because everybody thinks they are so great. civics with 250k on them sell for $4000, give me a break.

^ Much truth here.  ;D

When I was looking for my first car, I looked high & low. I came across a shitload of VW's, Honda's, & Toyotas in my search... all of them complete dogs, and WAY overpriced. $4000 for 250k is actually spot on to what I had saw out there... people want an INSANE amount of money for these cars (usually teens... who beat the snot out of them... every day...).

And that ladies & gentlemen, is why I bought an $1800, former-CSP CVPI.  :D

yep i remember looking at hondas when i was shopping, it was pathetic, people think that a 94 civic with 250k is like some kind of gold brick that will transport them indefinitely. got my saturn for 1500 and beat the snot out of it for 2 years. it was even faster than my friends civic lol

I don't advocate street racing, but I remember when I first got my CV... EVERYONE picked a fight with me.

I had a bunch of little faggits that drove VW's thinking they were hot shit. One of them had a brand new VR6 mummy & daddy dearest bought for him, that he dumped all kinds of money into.

I just had enough of the shit these little peckerheads were spewing forth from their pieholes, and took them up on their petty little game. Fine, big-fat-car, vs. their little tuners. I left those plastic POS's in the dust. That was BEFORE any work to the car. Now? I can roast both rear tires from a standstill... no brakes. People with small cars like to talk shit :)

(I can't wait until people start talking shit about my TravelAll... I CAN win a shoving match with a Ram.  ;)  )

The reason the Honda Civics are so overpriced used, is the fact they get crazy high gas mileage. My buddies' '94 had like over 200K on it and the bastard  8) kept calling me up and boasting how he was averaging like upper 40-50's with city driving!! (I was driving a Caddy V8 then  ;D). LOL

I right now own my first import car, it's a new Hyundai Elantra and I love it. Crazy long warranty, 40+MPG on highway, more interior and trunk space than my frackin' Caddy SLS had.

My gf drives a 20yo Civic with close to a quarter million miles on it that she inherited from her dad.  Gets excellent mileage, provides great reliability with minimal issues.  Fuel cost is cheap, insurance is cheap, property taxes are cheap, maintenance is cheap.  And it gets her from point A to point B.

Different strokes for different folks.

Not bashing Civics, but I'll take a Crown Vic any day & twice on sunday over a Honda. Honda makes a good reliable car, but after driving my grandfather's tin-can of a Skylark (before we had gotten the Lacrosse), I CANNOT STAND small cars.

Safer, tougher, and the "Severe duty" parts are nice. Gas mileage isn't terrible on the freeway as long as you are just cruising. It's nice to lay rubber every once in awhile too. 8)

Not to mention CV's have gone over 600,000mi. as taxi-cabs that were ex-police cruisers with nothing more than routine maintenance. I'll have to dig up the article somewhere.

CVPI's are cheap cheap CHEAP too!!!  ;D
