Speaking of "loud pipe" laws, I always enjoy seeing some wannabe redneck with stacks on a ragged out Ram on the side of the road with a ticket being written.

D*cks.  ;D

Good luck trying to fight it. Some people seem to have luck in going to court and challenging a ticket, others don't.

On the subject of loud pipes. During the summer, on the weekends especially, its rather annoying to hear them drive down the road in my neighborhood. Especially when there is a pack of 10 or 20 riding together. Or when they race down the street late at night to try and beat the traffic lights. They even tend to set off the car alarms when they drive by because of the amount of noise and vibrations they generate. Gotten so bad I sometimes have to shut my windows to help cut down the noise from them in the summer.

You could always sit on your front yard with a shotgun taking notes. :)

He can only do it if he's a veteran though. That's the only way it'll be acceptable.  ;)

It was on a bike, and I know this is a car forum, but does anyone have any advice on how to beat this $225 ticket?

I would go to court early and get in to see the prosecuting attorney. Explain to him what happened and there was no meter and it was on the highway, etc. Take what ever deal you get because if you go before the judge you will lose and pay the fine. JMHO

I always heard that the laws about exhaust noise have to be enforced by an officer taking a DB reading while the motorcycle is running at certain RPM. The officer must also be standing 20 ft away from the tailpipe.

They used to check for baffles too. Usually stick baton up pipes to see if it hits a baffle.

I would go to court and tell the Judge you have bafffles in your pipes and never had any complaints on noise. If its your first ticket for loud pipes I would think he will toss it out of court.

If your running straight pipes your just asking for trouble tho. I used to run straight pipes on a shovelhead and it would set off car alarms going thru town. Just too darn loud.
