Any Import owners?
« on: December 01, 2011, 11:42:24 PM »
Just wanted to see if there's anyone that's into the import scene. I myself is a Honda owner, just curious if we have any members on board here interested in those kind of cars.

When a Honda is done CORRECTLY, i have respect for it. But I live in BPT with a bunch of "ricans and rice rockets".

"Import" is a tricky word.

Toyotas are assembled in Lexington, Kentucky.  I worked there for a bit, and they bring in huge rolls of sheet metal and stamp out then weld together the car bodies from scratch.

Subarus in Lafayette, Indiana.
Hondas in Greensburg, Indiana, Greensboro, NC, Ohio, California, etc.
Hyundais from a newly built billion dollar Alabama plant.
Nissan, etc...

While several GM and Chrysler models are built in Canada and Mexico....

My daily commuter car is a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Far from a sports car but it's economy (40+MPG on the highway easy) makes up for any performance loss vs a V6 or V8 i'm used to. My first import car ever.

My beater is a '97 Maxima SE with factory 350Z wheels.  It has Eibach Ground Control coil overs and tokico struts.  It was my best friend's car when we were in high school and I bought it from him several years back when he was still in the USMC.

Right now it has a little over 170K miles on it.  If the engine ever goes I'll do a 3.5L swap and change the 5 speed to a 6 speed.

In 15 years it will be sporting an "antique" plate  ;)  Love that car even though I rarely drive it.

That reminded me of the Oldsmobile 98 we had. Buick 3.8 under the hood, and a hair over 4000lbs...

That car did not only hold the road exceptionally well, but was AWESOME in snow, and sure could boogey. Unfortunately, rust likes to kill cars up here...  :'(
