If your switching to a synthetic/polymer stock it can be foldable or collapsible, threaded barrel...same as any other preban. I'm not an M14 expert but I don't think it matters if your keeping the original stock, unless you want a flash hider.

With anything pre-ban, the AWB in CT doesn't apply, unless it is specifically named in the ban list.

This being said, I'm kind of fond of them the way they are stock. I find the wood stocked, stainless versions particularly charming as is.  :)

With a preban mini-14 you could put a pistol grip adjustable stock on it and still have a flash hider.  :)
I assume, providing the preban Mini-14 isn't the banned by name "Ruger Mini-14/5F folding stock model only" you probably could put a folding pistol grip stock on it too.

Frankly I like my vintage mid 80's pre-ban with the wood. To me Mini's just don't look right with tach cool aftermarket stocks.

Agreed. I've seen Mini's with AR collapsible stocks, and they look uglier than Hell. Totally out of character.

On the other hand, my pre-ban Mini looks just fine with it's polymer, pistol gripped stock. And it digests reloads like gangbusters. That's why I keep it.

The only way i would get a preban mini, is if i were able to get an original ruger folding stock, and slap it on. Then i have the banned mini, but legal>:D

Can someone tell me if I have a pre-ban?  If it is needed, I will get the #. I am guessing it is a possibility. Its a 188 something

It's not preban it was made between 99-00. Here's a link to the serial number chart.

And for any other ruger guns

Huh, ya shee(mobster voice)......you're so correct and with his 188 serial number it could be a ranch model...

Used my own link against me  >:( LOL it's all good I'm glad you corrected me....

icanthitabarn: Is it a ranch rifle? You could also always contact ruger and they will give you will help you out.
