Also the BC doesn't have any ports between 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock.   How can it cause a problem when shooting prone?

I never payed attention to where the where the openings on a BC start and stop, but I have witnessed first hand blowback south of the muzzle. Try it.

Interesting.  Will do.

The removal of those downward facing cutouts helps reduce the kicking up of dirt/sand/dust.  However, if the muzzle is close to the ground, there is no way to completely eliminate such effect.  Even a bare muzzle without any brake or flash suppressor will kick up loose ground.  The reduction is significant though, specially up close, compared to a flash suppressor that retains those downward facing cutouts.

Cool. And after looking at a few pics of the BC just now, it's openings appear to start/stop at 4 and 8 which is obviously greater than being parallel to the ground at 3 and 9. So when prone, the pressure out of the holes at 4 and 8 are hitting the ground within a few inches to the left and right of the muzzle right in front of you.

As with anything, there is always a compromise/pro's and con's.

Definately agree although the SF is an exception as it doesn't kick up anything that is within your field of vision. Nothing at all out front and far enough away from you to your left and right to be a non issue.

The care about noise part comes in when you're in a line with 10 other people  side to side during a rifle course and somebody is running a loud as heck compensator next to your head.

I'll be sure to select my equipment so it dosn't disturb the other guy rather than what is the most effective for me. Or, perhaps I'll just move over next  to someone with a can. ;)

While I appreciate your point, I am also considering the noise/blast that I as the shooter have to deal with when shooting in semi-enclosed areas.  I went with the BC after shooting my F.I.L.s CT compliant stag side by side with a rifle that was wearing a BC.  The Stag was notably more concusive for me, the shooter, and those around me.  To each his own.

Which is why I have stayed w/ the BC series. I find them to be very tolerable, it's up and to the side, not to the rear. Indoors without the usual open space of a range and typical heavy duty ear pro, the concussion can be disorienting with almost anythng not supressed. Outside in training sessions, the blast just dosn't bother me. As Durham68 said, in effect we all perceive things differently.
