I was more worried about the banging around in hot soapy water compromising the seal and producing a squib that leaves a bullet partway down the barrel.  Perhaps excessive caution.  :)

Anything's possible, but I've never seen a confirmed incident of it happening. As I said previously, water has no effect upon powder. Put some powder in a cup of water, leave it there a couple of days, then dump it on the ground and drop a match on it. Be prepared for the flash as the powder burns. Smokeless powder does not absorb water.

Interesting Lon, never thought that would have been possible, you know I will be pulling some cartridges apart to check that out.  :)

I used to shoot 'The Holy Black' in my younger years. Don't believe what you hear about wet black powder. It won't fire when it's wet but you can dry it out and it will fire just fine and sometimes it get's even more potent.

TRUE BP will dry & fire well after being subjected to excessive moisture, and then dried; I can't say the same for substitutes though.

I have a tip for you though, back in the 16/17th century, the French used to actually glaze their 2fg with sulphurized red wine. I have done this successfully with 3f (although a little sticky & chunky at times), and the performance is phenomenal. (Think Swiss powder on steroids)

If anyone's interested in how I've done it, I'd be all to glad to tell you through PM. I don't want to be held liable for someone KB'ing their kitchen.  :-\

Every time I attempt to dry my BP with the torch, it ends up igniting and there's nothing left to use...
...I've had a few misfires with some 1914-1917 .45 ACP.... darn! (I figure just don't use this stuff for comp or carry ammo.)
